Corporal Henry Johnson

Summary

Corporal Henry Johnson was a U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Worden in Port Townsend, Washington. He is believed to have been murdered in 1908 by fellow soldier James Holt, an event that has become a part of local folklore. The murder reportedly took place in the tailor shop at Alexander's Castle, a historic building within the fort. Over the years, numerous reports of paranormal activity have been associated with Johnson's spirit, particularly in Building 205, known as the Band Barracks, and Alexander's Castle. Witnesses have described unexplained noises, cold spots, and the apparition of a man in military uniform. While some accounts suggest a residual haunting, others indicate intelligent interactions, suggesting Johnson's spirit may be aware of and responsive to the living. Paranormal investigations have been conducted at Fort Worden, with varying degrees of reported success in capturing evidence of Johnson's presence.
